Woodcote is a little hamlet in the nationally important Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty whose cluster of farm buildings has been renovated carefully over the years to ensure that distinctive character and identity is not lost.
The settlement dates back to the Domesday book but its existing buildings form part of the Lovelace Estate heritage that is such an important feature of this largely unspolit stretch of the Surrey countryside. This was a holiday home of Beatrix Potter where she wrote and painted water colours for her immortal children’s books. It is therefore of concern to CPRE Surrey that development should not have an obtrusive effect that could undermine rather than enhance the overall appearance and setting of this hamlet. CPRE has objected to a current planning application that is now under consideration.
