cpre_treeThe Surrey Branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) is a voice for everyone who wishes to save our countryside and open spaces. We want to safeguard the Green Belt. We want to ensure that development is kept within sustainable limits, and that as much as possible is located on derelict land in existing urban areas. We want to protect our country lanes, and safeguard the unique character of our villages and rural communities.

Surrey is the most heavily wooded county in England and 70 per cent of its area is Green Belt. Yet now the pressure for commercial development is threatening much of our local countryside. So too is the pressure to build more housing on greenfield (previously undeveloped) sites.
